Kiwifruit threat suspends trading

The impact of the suspected disease outbreak threatening the Bay of Plenty's kiwifruit sector has grown with a trading halt placed on shares in Satara Cooperative Group and Seeka Kiwifruit on the New Zealand stock exchange.

Seeka shares last traded at $3.10 and Satara shares were trading at $1 before the halt. Satara shares have risen 42.9 per cent this year.
Seeka controls 26 per cent of New Zealand's kiwifruit crop after purchasing fruit packaging company Te Awanui Huka Pak for $24 million late last year.
Satara announced in September that it was seeking to merge with EastPack to form a grower owned company.

thanks to sunlive for breaking this story nationally, it has been overlooked by national media, who find a lost 2 yr old in Otara more interesting. this could have serious consequences for the BOP economy and the national economy. about time the national media realised the importance of our horticulture and biosecurity to the whole of the country.
