Tauranga based electricity company TrustPower experienced a $23 million drop in its net profits during the six month period ending September.
TrustPower had a net profit of $59.7 million, compared with $82.4 million during the same period last year.
TrustPower chief executive Vince Hawksworth says three factors contributed to the drop; less wind at its South Australian wind farm, lower demand for electricity during winter due to warmer weather, and higher energy costs in the South Island.
'Those three things together have resulted in the first half of this year being lower,” says Vince.
He says that while the company has experienced a loss in the previous six months, he expects the profits to increase in the six month period that ends March 2011.
He believes the profits during the year to the end of March 2011 will be close to the results in the previous year.
'If the wind doesn't blow for another six months in South Australia that might be a bit of an issue.
'Overall I think, considering the market and climatic conditions and the competitive conditions; the result is satisfactory.”
TrustPower's earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, amortisation and fair value movements on financial instruments decreased by five per cent to $147.7 million from $154.9 million in the previous year.

I think the generous annual cheque that was recently received is a good experience! I haven't had this from any other power company that I have signed up to! ;)

what the heck whinging because they only exploited $59 million this time instead of $82!!!for goodness sake its this greedy attitude that's bought financial collapse to the markets!!If they stopped aiming to increase their profits each year...maybe we could afford our crazy bills each month!!! its not not like the service is improving....
Ummmm

Where do you think the Cheque money came from.......The Tooth fairy. They over charge all year and give you a percentage of it back. If you feel thats a good deal. Then enjoy But please spend it locally
The cheque is a have!

Funny I saw this news on TV7 last night. Contrary to what the Trustpower CEO stated to Sunmedia, the loss was due to Trustpower losing customers to the SOEs. Not suprised as Trustpower has the most expensive electricity on the market even taking into account the rebate cheque. That cheque has proven to be a great marketing tool for Trustpower, but you can only fool some of the people some of the time.
Good Moneysaver

My cheque this year equalled 3 months electricity. That is pretty good - it reduces the annual bill to much less than any other supplier can do.
Good Service

The unusual weather over winter caused more than one power outage here at The Mount. Phone staff were most helpful and power was restored quite quickly. Also-just remember the TECT grants benefit the WHOLE Community including NON Trustpower clients.I am happy to receive my Trustpower rebate cheque and am very happy with the Community support shown too

I have no bitch with Trust Power the 1000 shares you gave me a few years ago were split and now i have 2000 worth $7.17 a share, thanks again. You will always have the people who think that business should not make profits. I think the shareholders will be happy with the way the company is going.

Ummmmm...no Tony - I don't believe the money came from the toothfairy. I do have a family to support - and thanks it will be going towards them who put a great deal into local businesses. You asked for a good experience and I shared.
