Tauranga rocker Phil Rudd will defend charges of possession of methamphetamine, threatening to kill and possession of cannabis at a judge alone trial in April.

AC/DC drummer Rudd, who has been on bail since his arrest in November, will appear in Tauranga District Court on April 21 to defend the charges.

The 60-year-old was also originally facing a charge of procuring murder, but that was later dropped once Crown Solicitor Greg Hollister-Jones reviewed the police file and found the available evidence didn't support the charge.

Rudd was arrested following a raid on his Bureta home on November 6 last year.

During the raid, police found 0.71 grams of methamphetamine and 130 grams of cannabis.

According to the summary of facts, he admitted possessing a small amount of cannabis located at his home.

After speaking with police, the musician and Tauranga businessman appeared in Tauranga District Court later the same day.

When interviewed by police, Rudd denied threatening to kill and also denied making any alleged phone call.

The case has left Rudd's position with AC/DC in doubt with drummer Chris Slade replacing him for a performance at the Grammys in Los Angeles recently.

Slade said on Facebook that he was also playing in the upcoming 'Rock or Bust” world tour, although Rudd said last year that he wanted to keep his job.
