Michelle's transformation

A mother of four from Tauranga has seen her life transformed after losing 62.9kg.

Michelle Steer never thought she would be able to run, let alone compete in a triathlon.

Michelle has lost 62.9kg and wants to lose another 25
.

But she did just that when she competed in a triathlon as part of the three day multisport festival in Mount Maunganui recently.

'They cancelled the cycling section of the triathlon,” she explains. 'I was ready to pull out because cycling is my strength, but I decided to go ahead.”

Before she started on her weight loss journey, Michelle weighed 164.4kg.

'I was quite big,” she admits.

Today she weighs 101.5kg and is aiming to drop another 25kgs.

'When people see me, they expect me to weigh less,” says Michelle, who adds that being 6ft helps to make her look leaner.

Her decision to lose weight came about through inspiration from her children.

Michelle says she wants to see them grow up and have children of their own.

'I wanted to be able to do more with my kids,” she says. 'It's a lot easier to chase them around now.

'I started [losing weight] before I had my daughter, who's now 18-months-old. Then I got pregnant with her and put the weight back on. I got a gym deal in September off GrabOne and since then I have lost 40kg.”

Michelle hasn't lost the weight through any fad diets, weight loss pills or shakes. She says it's just about being more active and clean eating.

She says: 'I don't eat breads or pasta or anything like that. The only carbohydrates I get is in fruits. I watch what I eat. I do eat chocolates but I don't binge eat like I used to.”

Michelle had set herself of goal of being 100kg by February 21, but as she will nail that goal in no time, she now has a goal of competing in the Huntly Half Marathon in May.

She joked about doing a marathon with her mum, but now it's become a reality.

Michelle is sharing her story with others via a Facebook page set up to document her progress.

Steering to success – My Shrinking Transformation was launched to try and help motivate other people through their weight loss journey.

Michelle, dubbed the incredible shrinking lady by a group of ladies who inspired her to set up the page, says once she has reached her desired goal weight she will work on toning up.

'I will eventually head to Thailand to have surgery for excess skin,” she says. 'People don't really notice it but I do, especially on my arms.”

Michelle is working through another woman who has had the same procedure done and says she trusts her. 'She wouldn't put me in danger,” she adds.

Well done, what a transformation. To look at your 'after' pic I wouldn't have guessed you were still over 100, you wear it well. Funny really because I am 6 foot tall, and at 85 kgs my BMI says I am overweight....

Real Inspration!

Thank you Michele and Sunlive for this great article. I spent ten years in the Navy and the people for whom I had the greatest respect weren't hhe super athletes but the unfit out of shape people with poor lifestyle choices who picked themselves up and did what you are doing. Well done and anda earl life example. Thank you.
