A car has crashed on State Highway 25 nearby Whiritoa following a police pursuit which started in Whangamata this afternoon.

Traffic is now closed in both directions following the crash which occurred about three kilometres north of Golden Valley Rd, with one lane is expected to be opened within the hour.

Waikato District Command Centre detective sergeant Robbie Hermann says there were no serious injuries as a result of the crash, which occured at about 4.30pm.

'The pursuit originated in Whangamata,” says Robbie, 'as officers were concerned with the vehicle's manner of driving and the driver is a person of interest to police.”

Robbie says the road would be opened to one lane within the hours but was unable to provide an estimate of when it would be re-opened fully.
