Will Tatton of Mount Maunganui-based Will Tatton Architecture Ltd has won a national award for the $10.2 million three unit townhouses on the corner of Oceanbeach Road and Wairekei St, Arataki.

The Architectural Designers NZ Awards were presented at The Rutherford Hotel in Nelson on Friday night.
Will was also a finalist for a house he designed in Rita Street, Mount Maunganui.
The national awards follow a series of six regional award events held throughout July. Regional category winner projects selected from branches throughout New Zealand were considered for the national awards presentation at the ADNZ/Resene Design Awards Gala Dinner in Nelson.
Will says in a departure from format, he and fellow Tauranga designer Brendon Gordon, were the only two finalists called in the multi-unit category.
'That was it, it was just us,” says Will.
'The Mount is still doing multi-unit developments, whereas other places are not.”
Will Tatton, of Will Tatton Architecture in Mount Maunganui, was awarded the Residential Multi-Unit Dwelling Design Award, sponsored by Elephant Plasterboard, for a beachfront Bond Street Apartment complex.
The judges, renowned Wellington architect Ian Athfield, Peter Bosley from Auckland and Ross Maguire from Christchurch, say they were impressed by the strong architectural lines of the three unit complex that took full advantage of the ocean views, minimised exposure to the elements and offered a superb aspect to the public domain with a stylish street frontage.
The generous floor layout was enhanced by oversized, cavernous interior spaces and motorised five-metre high shutters that can be moved to create semi sheltered outdoor rooms.
