It may be the end of the year, but Kokomo are only getting started ahead of a summer that promises a lot of music from the Tauranga band.

Ahead of this Friday's 2014 Kokomo Christmas Party and their final show for the year, Kokomo have launched the first video for the song ‘Vinegar Hill' off their latest album ‘Bigger Than Brando'.

This week Tauranga musical stalwarts Kokomo launched the newest video for ‘Vinegar Hill', taken from their latest album 'Bigger Than Brando' released earlier this year.

The video was directed, filmed and edited by harmonica player Grant Bullot, a founding member of Kokomo and a noted local artist.

Frontman Derek Jacombs says this is the third video Grant has made for the band and he is extremely pleased with how it has turned out.

'I think it looks fantastic,” he says. 'It's certainly the most sophisticated vid Grant has done so far and I even see hints of David Lynch!”

‘Vinegar Hill' was filmed mostly at AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd's old recording studio in Pahoia, with additional footage utilising models and props built by Grant filmed at his studio.

Derek says Grant is a well-known as a Tauranga artist who's been on the art scene for over a decade and been part of several joint exhibitions plus his own solo shows.

'He is particularly noted for his painting on corrugated surfaces and has visited art schools in Auckland by invitation to lecture on his techniques,” explains Derek.

This Friday the band play Mauao Performing Arts Centre in Mount Maunganui as part of the 2014 Kokomo Christmas Party.

The variety-style show will see Kokomo joined on stage by special guests Marion Arts, Andy Craw, Mike Garner, John Michaelz and Aaron Saxon.

'It's nearly Christmas so everyone gets stressed out – forget all that for one night and just come and party,” says Derek.

The 2014 Kokomo Christmas Party is on at the Mauao Performing Arts Centre, 15 Totara St, Mount Maunganui this Friday, December 12, from 8pm.

Tickets cost $20 and can be purchased through the Tauranga Music website at: www.taurangamusic.com
