Pavilion design proves popular

The Coast Papamoa Beach pavilion and community centre is now an award winning design after claiming the People's Choice Award at the NZ Wood Timber Design Awards.

The People's Choice winner.

The award was presented at a ceremony held on Monday night at Te Papa in Wellington.

Ambienti Architects accepted the award for the building which Coast Papamoa Beach project director Steve Short says is the centrepiece of Coast Papamoa Beach and sets the tone for the whole community.

He says the building was designed to be durable and to blend in with the natural environment.

The building was also a finalist in the Commercial Architecture Excellence Award category, but this was won by the visitors' centre at Waitomo Caves.

This building also won the Commercial Engineering Excellence and Clever Solutions awards.

The new Supreme Court building in Wellington designed by Warren and Mahoney was also a winner, claiming the Interior Fit-out Award.
