ASB Venues exec 'delighted'

A call for Tauranga locals to show their support for big events has been heard following the announcement that Sol3 Mio will play the ASB Arena - much to the delight of Bay Venues chief executive Gary Dawson.

Gary recently warned locals that in order to make sure promoters bring their big acts back to Tauranga, people needed to get off the couch and get behind local events.

'New Zealand based Samoan operatic sensation Sol3 Mio will perform at the ASB Arena in February and already nearly 2000 tickets have sold, with more still available,” he says.

'ASB Arena can cater for up to 4,600 people in standing concert mode. But dimensions and configurations can be changed to suit. If something more intimate is required it can be delivered.”

Gary says other exciting, yet-to-be-announced concerts are waiting in the wings.

In the meantime a range of events have been planned by Bay Venues for the summer period.

Along with music lovers, adrenalin junkies will also be well catered for with the venue's events calendar including speedway events, drifting championships and the ENZED Stadium Jetsprints.

'Summer will see a mix of firm favourites and some new opportunities delivered at ASB Baypark,” he adds.

'It is also proving to be a popular venue for Christmas functions, with acclaimed catering and audio visual experts, for example, on site.”

So that will mean that more staff, more wages, more costs and the cost to ratepayers will grow even more than the $15m annually already.
