While the saw dust would help the road's condition is still very dangerous and John warns motorists to take care when driving in the area.
'The spill has made its way into the main street of Coromandel, it's massive to be honest with you, the spill covers kilometres.
'Conditions are slippery as it is and if it rains then the situation could potentially become quite lethal so motorists please take care.”
The cause of the spill is yet to be determined but the diesel is likely to have come from a heavy motor vehicle.
John says there are no road closures at present but is advising the public to drive safely and be alert.
'Should it rain today then we hopes it really buckets down to get rid of it quickly.”
