The Mount Maunganui concert will be the biggest venture so far for the promoters and will see a number of special guests share the stage with iconic Tauranga blues and roots band Kokomo.

Those guests include guitarist Aaron Saxon and singer-songwriter Marion Arts, international bluesman Mike Garner, veteran entertainer Andy Craw and Whangarei singer John Michaelz.

Colin is an award-winning photographer and marketing guru, while Derek is the frontman of Kokomo. Both are ex-directors of Tauranga's National Jazz Festival.

Derek says the upcoming concert worked out great as Kokomo wanted to do a big show before at the Mount before Christmas.

'We didn't want to do something we've done before. So we've invited a pile of friends, people who we admire and whose music we've enjoyed over the years, to join us for a sort of music revue.

'Like the Blues Brothers show but going way beyond the blues. Music for everyone. Come and join the party!”

In the past two months TaurangaMusic.com have organised several smaller concerts, including September's Andrew London Trio shows and the sold-out Grant Winterburn and Carol Storey jazz concerts at the Tauranga Art Gallery in October.

They was also responsible for the promotion of Kokomo's successful 'Tour of Tauranga” concerts.

Colins says with the success of the smaller concerts, which all nearly sold out in advance, they wanted to present a bigger show before the end of the year.

'The newly refurbished MauaoPAC is the perfect place and since Derek fronts Kokomo, they seemed like the perfect band.

'We also have a series of shows planned for next year which we think will be very exciting for the artists involved and for Tauranga.”

TaurangaMusic aims to promote a series of events during the upcoming year featuring Bay of Plenty, national and international artists.

They will focus on 'high-value, high-quality performances” and carefully selected venues, says Colin.

Kokomo's 2014 Christmas Party takes place at the Mauao Performing Arts Centre, 11 Totara Street, Mount Maunganui, on December 12.
