All USA Car Day revs up

You never know what's going to drive through the gates at Bay of Plenty Mustang Club's annual Extreme Automotive All USA Car Day, according to club president Dave Flett.

Thousands of US car fans admire the display. Photos: Cameron Avery.

And today's display is no exception, with about 200 vehicles, from early vintage models to pickups, customised cars and hot rods revving up excitement at Wharepai Domain.

Although he says it's too early to say exactly, there's as many as 4000 fans admiring the US vehicles so far.

'Can you believe they turned on a beautiful day weather-wise? There's not a drop of rain anywhere.”

The main attraction though, is the surprising 83 Mustangs parking up on the domain in celebration of 50 years since the first Mustangs were released.

'For the 50th anniversary we wanted 50 Mustang's but we've just been told there's 83 here today,” says Dave, who's counted groups from Auckland, Waikato and Taranaki Mustang clubs arriving so far, along with the Auckland Corvett Club and Cadillac Club.

'We've got a very high club representation here today. It couldn't have gone better.

'There's always something new and different turning up. When you say all USA you don't know what's going to come in the gate.”

The event is open to public from 10am, with prize-giving at 2pm. Money raised from entry will be donated to Waipuna Hospice.

It would have been cool to see some of really old Vintage US models there. Where was the Vintage Car club?
