A car was torn in two when it hit a ditch on State Highway 29 early this morning.
The vehicle was found abandoned on the highway, between Barkes Corner and Route K at around 1:40am.
The car was ripped in half when it hit the ditch early this morning. Photos: Andrew Campbell.
Western Bay of Plenty road policing manager Senior Sergeant Ian Campion says the vehicle sustained significant damage when it crashed into a ditch.
People who witnessed the crash or know who was involved are asked to contact Tauranga Police Station on: 07 577 4300 with any information.
Earlier in the night, police also responded to a single car crash on State Highway 36, near Mangatoi Road.
Ian says one person was taken to hospital as a precaution after the vehicle overturned.
'Early indications appear speed is a contributing factor in the crash and the road was wet.
'It was also a 50km/h speed zone as road works were in the area,” adds Ian.

Actually I think they should with this kind of lucky (to survive) means lotto would be a certainty. Cant say that surviving this was a good omen, must have been a huge hit to have busted the car like that.
