A man has died in the Western Bay of Plenty this evening after his motorcycle collided with a truck on State Highway 2 in Te Puna.

The incident happened just after 8pm close to the intersection of Gill Lane, and despite the best efforts of the emergency services, the motorcyclist died at the scene.

The truck driver was unhurt following the collision and the Police Serious Crash Unit have already begun investigating the incident.

Details of the victim are unknown at this time and the road is currently closed, with traffic being diverted via Munro Road and Te Puna Quarry Road.
