Bay of Plenty has fallen short of claiming vital Fergus Hickey Rosebowl points with its batting line-up failing to seal the deal.
The two-day match between the Bay and Northland at Mount Maunganui's Bay Oval saw the visitors win the toss and elect to bat.

Batting for the full day on Saturday, Northland reached a very solid 303 for the loss of nine wickets at the close of play.
Brad Kneebone anchored the visitors‘ turn at bat to score of 71, with Neal Parlane posting a solid half century.
Resuming their batting on day two, Northland added 34 runs before being dismissed for 337. Kurtley Watson impressed with a hard-fought 45.
Bay all-rounder Brett Hampton toiled away with the ball and was rewarded with five wickets at a cost of 61 runs, with Donovan Deeble grabbing two bowling scalps on his Bay debut.
The home side made an impressive start, reaching 133 before the first wicket fell when Peter Drysdale was removed for 48.
Tom MacRury continued the momentum to top score with 88, while Bharat Popli reached 61 before his dismissal.
While the Bay were chasing a large target, they were right in the match at 251 for the loss of only four wickets.
But the momentum quickly swung in Northland's favour with their bowlers putting real pressure on the remaining Bay batsmen with great success.
While Mitch McCann dug deep to post 48 runs, the Northland bowling attack removed the last six Bay batsmen for just 36 runs to claim first innings points.
The Northland pair of Kurtley Watson and Henry Cooper claimed nine wickets, with Watson taking a five wicket haul while Cooper returned 4/58.
The Bay plays a two-dayer at home against Counties in a little under two weeks, ahead of limited overs fixtures against Hamilton, Counties and Northland at the annual one-day tournament.
