Rocky Horror creator Richard O'Brien is hosting a Halloween party in Katikati on Friday night, and everyone's invited.
The former Crystal Maze presenter, who also played Riff Raff in cult-classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show, is staging the party alongside wife Sabrina to raise funds for Katikati's new St. John Ambulance station.
Richard and Sabrina O'Brien prepare decorations for Katikati's Halloween Hoe Down on Friday October 31.
'It's a Halloween hoe down,” he says, 'so people can come dressed however they like, including in cowboy style if they wish. Grab your friends, dress up and get down.”
The band Kokomo will play live and Sabrina and Richard, who are decorating the hall and arranging special effects, have hinted at the possible appearance of other celebrities on the night.
There will be the chance to take ‘selfies' with Richard and celebs for a $1 donation to St Johns. The party begins at 7pm at the Katikati Primary School Hall in Beach Road and tickets cost $30 each.
Richard and Sabrina have lived in the Katikati district since 2010, and want to help the community build its much-needed new ambulance station.
When fund raising began in July, the figure required was $800,000. But thanks to generous local donations, funding from trusts and a $500,000 bequest, just $200,000 remains to be raised.
Richard and Sabrina hope the Halloween party will be another boost to funding.
While he is probably best known for writing The Rocky Horror Picture Show and playing the role of Riff Raff on stage and screen, Richard's career began as a stunt rider, and progressed to acting and television, including roles in Flash Gordon and The Wolves of Willoughby Chase.
Richard has also hosted charity events in the UK which raised significant sums for the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital.
Tickets for the Richard O'Brien Halloween Hoe Down in the Katikati Primary School Hall on Friday October 31 cost $30 each and are available from: Molly's at Waihi Beach and the Katikati Information Centre.
To reserve a ticket call Elaine on: 07 549 4006. There may be limited door sales on the night.

What a fantastic idea for such a worthy cause, what a shame the just announced $26 million dollar price tag for the flag referendum couldn't be used. Have we as a country got our priorities completely back to front?
