Mount Maunganui surfer Kehu Butler has double the reasons to celebrate after surfing his way to two titles at the Backdoor BayBash in the Hawke's Bay this weekend.
On the final stop of the national series', NZ Pro Series and NZ Grom Series, the teenager finished with a flourish, taking out both the Under 14 and Under 17 Boys Division's.

With the surf remaining small and below the 1m mark throughout the final day the light winds and good banks made the waves contestable throughout the tides at Waimarama Beach.
Butler claimed the first of his two wins in the Under 14 Boys Division with an easy victory over his opponents – his biggest challenge coming from fellow Mountie Lee Ririnui.
Looking impressive all final, Ririnui finished with a 13.7 point heat total but it was no match for Butlers 16 point heat total.
Dylan Preston, Whangamata, finished third in the final locking in one good ride but coming up short on his second ride while Hamilton surfer Caleb Cutmore finished in fourth place.
Once again in the Under 17 division Butler was unstoppable, surfing to a convincing victory.
In the final, Butler raced across the small right-handers with ease to amass a 16.10 point heat total.
The race for runner up was tight with all three of Butler's opponents battling it out, but it was double finalist Joshua Farr, Taranaki that edged out Raglan's Taylor Hutchison for second with Jonas Tawharu, Mount Maunganui in fourth.
In the Under 17 Girls Division it was all Dayna Story who continued her day-one form to clinch the title.
Looking hungry from the outset, the Gisborne surfer Story accumulated good scores with her aggressive approach to the right-handers, finishing with a 12.67 point heat total for her second consecutive win this month.
Mount Maunganui's Kea Smith and Jasmine Smith, Gisborne placed second equal with Smith getting the nod on a count-back, Jasmine finishing in third and Raiha Ensor, Mount Maunganui in fourth.
In the Open Mens Division prominent Kiwi surfer Maz Quinn claimed his first national series event in three years after clinching the final in the dying minutes over two local Hawkes Bay surfers.
The Gisborne surfer started out the final in top form posting a 7.33 point ride, but as many finals performances pan out after good starts, Quinn waited on a second scoring ride to secure the win for longer than he anticipated.
The wait pushed into the final five minutes as local surfer Ben Hazelwood took the lead and fellow local Jeremy Evans pushed for the lead also.
Quinn continued to wait and it paid off eventually with two minutes remaining, latching on to a good little right-hander and completed two of his patented forehand wraps to post another 7.30 point ride and secure the win.
'I haven't won a national event since 2012 so it is good to get a win here this weekend” says Quinn.
'I live two hours away from here and I haven't been down surfing here before so it is good that the comp was held in a different location and that everyone gets to go and see a new part of New Zealand.”
Hazelwood was eventually pushed back to second with an 11.37 point heat total, still satisfied with the result and beating his mate Jeremy Evans who finished on 10.90 points.
'We never really get any big names coming down to the Hawkes Bay so for him to come down and to be able to surf against him is big, it's cool” says Hazelwood in reference to Quinn entering the event.
'Hopefully there will be some better waves and warm weather next year and we can see more of the top guys come down to the event and have some fun.”
Auckland's Bianca Sansom claimed the Open Women's Division in a close final where she battled with double finalist Kea Smith for the win.
Sansom finished with an 11.27 point heat total and went one better than her runner up placing in the Under 20 Girls Division.
Smith finished with a 9.63 point heat total and could not find the right wave to unleash her powerful forehand attack. Placing third was Abby Falwasser – Logan of Gisborne ahead of Gabriella Sansom, Auckland in fourth.
The closest final of the day went to the Under 20 Boys Division where a countback was required to deny Butler of claiming his third title of the day.
Taranaki surfer Daniel Farr finished on level pegging with Butler but his 5.40 point highest scoring ride bettered that of Butler on 5.33.
Taylor Hutchison, Raglan placed third in the final for the second time in the day with Joshua Farr, Taranaki finishing in fourth.
