The first concrete pour at the site of Trustpower's new central city headquarters took place today, with an early start at 4.30am.
By 8am the 220 cubic metres was in, leaving contractors to smooth out of the last of 36 truckloads of concrete that went into the slab.
Contractors finishing off the pour that started at 4.30am today.
The remainder of the steel-reinforced foundation slab will be poured in two weeks' time when 500 cubic metres of concrete will fill the remainder of the footprint.
'That's all the base,” says Trustpower community relations manager Graeme Purches today.
'I went round and had a look this morning. I went down there at 5am and took a couple of photographs in the dark. It's the back part of the building they are pouring this morning. The bit in a couple of weeks' time is the major bit, the front bit.
'Once the next bit is poured they will start putting up the sides and bits and pieces. It's a good milestone.”
The three-storey building is expected to be completed in 2016. Trustpower is in the process of finalising the internal layout, working out how to house 400 hundred staff currently working from six buildings and five portacoms, in one office block
Trustpower's Maungatapu offices are not accessible by public transport, and the move into town will deliver major benefits to customers, contractors and the general public, says Graeme.
Trustpower is 30 per cent owned by the Tauranga Electrical Consumers' Trust.
