Otumoetai fire flick wins award

Playing with fire has helped three Year 10 Otumoetai College students win national film making award: Firewise Mad Movie Challenge.
Renee Cotton, Melissa Tapper and Jess King were the overall winners and won the best fake fire category and best acting in their movie 'Ablaze' they produced for the competition.

See the award winning film below.

Ablaze director Renee says judges were blown away and loved the special effects.
The movie needed to be less than three minutes in duration, use the slogan 'come on guys, let's get fire wise', and use a smoke alarm as a prop.
"We love making movies - it's our passion," says director Renee Cotton.
"We are always on the lookout for new competitions."
Making the movie wasn't smooth sailing for the girls, a week before the deadline only the music was organised.
"There was heaps of pressure on us."
Renee says from a young age she has always known directing as what she wants to do and Melissa and Jess have always wanted to be actors.
