Police issued 193 fines for speeding during a week-long campaign in which one driver was clocked doing 140km/h.
The police operation ran from September 15 through to September 21 and the highest speeds recorded were 114km/h in a 50km/h area and 140km/h on the open road.
More than 190 tickets were issued during a week-long police operation targeting speeders.
A high percentage of speeding infringements were in school zones.
Western Bay of Plenty road policing acting Sergeant Aaron Williams says police are astounded at this.
'There is definite logic behind police monitoring speeds outside schools and that is to keep our tamariki safe.
'Police will continue to patrol around school zones and will take a very low tolerance for persons placing anyone else at risk through their driving behaviour.”
There were 19 crashes during the week of the operation with three of them involving speed.
In addition to a crack-down on speed, police also breath tested over 2000 drivers at various checkpoints throughout the Western Bay of Plenty.
One woman recorded a breath alcohol result of 1405 micrograms, with the legal limit being 400 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath.
The woman was apprehended after members of the public reported her driving behaviour to police.
