Wednesday is the day the public gets to see what is envisaged for the road link from 15th Avenue, Turret Road through to the Maungatapu roundabout.
The New Zealand Transport Agency is holding an open day on the Hairini Link project at the Tauranga Boys' College gym 2, between 4pm and 8pm.
The roads to be corrected.
Maps drawings and perspectives will be on display showing what is proposed, what is planned and what is about to happen.
NZTA staff will be there to explain the processes, why some ideas have been progressed and others haven't.
NZTA state highway manager Rod James says public feedback is an important step in developing a final recommendation.
"We've investigated a range of options and have identified some potential solutions. An important part of the next stage it is getting feedback from local residents, commuters and the wider community," says Rod.
"This feedback will be factored into developing the preferred solution."
The open day is happening as preliminary work begins on the upgrade of the Fraser Street/15th Avenue intersection.
The intersection upgrade is stage two of the four stage project.
Stages three and four are still in the planning and consultative stages. Stage three is the four-laning from Cameron Road to the Maungatapu roundabout, including a new bridge across the Waimapu estuary. Stage four includes access improvements to Welcome Bay - popularly anticipated as an underpass.

The changes are intended to improve access to the CBD for Welcome Bay traffic. There will be an additional right turn lane at Cameron Road, and there will be two straight through lanes at Fraser Street.
The street widening will be on the southern side of the road, leaving the totara trees alongside Nicholson Field untouched.
Other changes planned include a solid central median from Cameron Road to Burrows Street, which will have traffic lights. Bernard Street and Grace Road will be left turn in and out.
At present the intention is to four lane Turret Road and build a new bridge on the western side of the existing bridge. Turret road is to be widened on the shore side, leaving the pohutakawa trees intact. NZTA staff have begun speaking with property owners, briefing them on the process.
The Hairini Link corridor is a four stage project that began in 2008 with the installation of traffic lights on the Maungatapu and Hairini roundabouts. To be known in future as Sate Highway 2A.
Stage two, the upgrade of the 15th Avenue/ Fraser Street intersection and associated improvements for cyclists and pedestrians, is due to start this month.
The open day marks the beginning of the public consultation phase for the major parts of the project. It is a chance for the public to see and discuss the route options before they are firmed up for the next stage.
After the preferred option is decided the project enters the notice of requirement phase. The Tauranga City Council is officially notified and land is sought and designated.
