Matua Patchwork & Quilters Group' Doris Duff is keeping tight lipped over the organisation's use of its newly purchased Skyhawks. |
One phone call was all it took to get the 17 mothballed Skyhawk jets to the Bay this week after a deal for their purchase fell through and left the government looking for an alternative.
Hearing that they would probably end up being given away, 76-year-old Doris Duff rang the Ministry of Defence and did the deal on behalf of the Matua Patchwork & Quilters Group.
'I hate to see things go to waste, or just thrown away,' says Doris, 'waste not, want not!'
Rumours of the acquisition being an escalation of their historic dispute with the Tauranga Bobbin & Lace Club were dismissed. 'That's just silly,' says Doris.

Good on Doris for being able to stitch up a deal.
