The cherry blossoms didn't quite cooperate, but Greerton's Cherry Blossom Week was still a real success, says Greerton Village Mainstreet manager Graeme Morrissey.
The annual event, held this year September 13-18, celebrates the flowering of the village's numerous cherry blossom trees, but while they blossomed early last year, they held off this time, says Graeme.
Jo Sykes, Sam Spade, Stuart Keene and Toni Bieleski from the Tauranga Hearing Association participated in the shop window dressing competition in Greerton.
"They're just starting to flower now. All the rain didn't help either, but the retailers got into the spirit of the celebration and more than usual entered our window dressing contest."
Judged by Sun Media general manager Ross Brown and Greerton JP Heather Waldron, the contest was won by Cavachi Boutique, with Possum Down and 2 Shoes sharing second place.
First prize was $500 worth of Greerton shopping vouchers and $500 worth of advertising with Sun Media. The second placegetters shared Greerton shopping vouchers valued at $250.
