Contractors have been working all morning to remove the fallen tree that fell across the road near Fantail Bay just past the stone cottage overnight.
Earlier report:
A Coromandel Town Information Centre spokesperson says the tree, believed to be as long as seven metres, was found fallen across the road overnight.
'It was found last night and I believe the council are working on it this morning to clear it.
She believes there are no detours in place and motorists will have to wait at the road block until the tree is cleared later today.
'Anyone who's up that way unfortunately will be stuck up there. There's no road from Fletcher Bay to Stony Bay so they're stuck up there enjoying the weather.”
She says contractors hope to have the fallen tree removed and the road re-opened by this afternoon.
