Wet conditions did little to hamper Otumoetai College making a dream national TV debut, beating Rosehill College 14-8.
In driving rain and fierce wind at Otumoetai College the game became a torrid forward struggle – the difference being home side's superior kicking game, reports Land Rover First XV Rugby.

Despite Rosehill enjoying more possession and an obvious edge in the scrums, Otumoetai spent 73 per cent of the game inside the Rosehill half before conceding a try with two minutes to go. Rosehill made a rare visit inside the 22 and openside Joeli Williams wrestled over from close range.
Leading 14-3 at halftime, the first ten minutes were a slog in the middle of the field, but gradually Otumoetai got on top. Smart tactical kicking by first-five Jack May caged Rosehill inside their 22 and eventually the pressure told with hooker Aidan Blair barging over for a try from a lineout.
Rosehill fullback Zeon McNabb responded with a penalty but in the 30th minute the Otumoetai fullback went one better by scoring a try.
Trying to clear the ball from the 22 the strong winds held the ball in up in the breeze before bouncing into Ryan McLean-Harvey's hands. McLean-Harvey's noticing the space dashed 35m to score.
Rosehill won the penalty count 15-2, but missed 23 tackles coupled with 17 handling errors - ensured they never applied consistent pressure at the right end of the field.
The best preformed players for the visitors were tighthead prop Brockson Brown and loose forwards Jonny Lealaiauloto and Raymond Kika Taase Aloniu. All three carried the ball strongly and did some good defensive work.
For Otumoetai openside Matt Ensor was a standout with his hustle on defense and speed and link play on attack. Lock Mikaere McLeod-Gurney toiled gamely and May's kicking game was sound. May was cruelly denied a try in the second-half when he appeared to have grounded the ball, but the referee's view was inhibited by the defence.
Otumoetai College: 14 (Aidan Blair, Ryan McLean-Harvey tries, Jack May 2 con)
Rosehill College: 8 (Joeli Williams try; Zeon McNabb 1 pen)
