Tenders out for log collector

Bay of Plenty Regional Council is hiring a temporary contractor to cover a gap in the Tauranga harbour log collecting contract.

The previous contract to collect logs that fall into the harbour during operations at the Port of Tauranga expired with Seaquest Marine on July 5.

A view of the logging operation at the port.

The council has now entered into a two-month contract with Tauranga-based Glencoe Marine, operator of the tugs Edward G and Petra G.

Regional council marine operations manager Reuben Fraser says a request for tender proposals is expected to be publicly advertised this Saturday.

Four quotes were considered for the temporary contract until a new proposal is confirmed.

The contract is also responsible for the management of buoys, lights and channel markers in the busiest commercial port in the country.

Seaquest Marine was also the former Bay of Plenty mooring contractor. There are now two mooring contractors, Whakatane based V Lane Services Ltd and Western Work Boats Ltd subsidiary BOP Moorings.

Outrageous

Why should my Regional Council rates pay for collecting logs dropped in the harbour by a listed company ie Port of Tauranga. This is an outrage. Maybe its because the Regional Council is a major shareholder in the Port ??? Shame on you.
