Port of Tauranga CEO Mark Cairns is organising a meeting with Natural Dairy, the company that plans to build a $20 million milk manufacturing plant in Tauranga.
Natural Dairy is the company bank rolling May Wang's bid for the 16 Crafar family farms.
It distributed an eight page fact sheet to media, politicians and other key players outlining benefits for New Zealand if the bid is successful.
The proposed Ultra High Temperature milk manufacturing facility, which Natural Dairy says would also create 50 jobs in the region, was included in the fact sheet.
Mark says he first heard rumours about the plant two weeks ago but was not contacted directly by Natural Dairy.
He wants to meet representatives from the company to talk about the plans in more detail.
A close proximity to the Port of Tauranga was one of the key reasons Natural Dairy gave for building the plant.
UHT manufactured milk has a long shelf life at room temperature. It is proposed the milk from the facility will be shipped to China.
A date for the meeting will be set once the port talks in more detail to Natural Dairy.
