Bay EFTPOS needs upgrading

Close to 3500 EFTPOS terminals across the Bay of Plenty require urgent upgrading, according to New Zealand payment provider Paymark.
The company's head of sales and marketing, Paul Whiston, says the figures are concerning.

He says the upgrades are necessary to enable retailers to process payments in accordance with new global security standards.
Without the upgrades, retailers would also be unable to process certain local and international card types.
"Retailers need to recognise that this is a very real issue and one that, if not addressed, will affect their bottom-line," says Paul.
"There are a number of upgrade options available that provide different capabilities and technologies.
"Many of these technologies aren't suited for the majority of Kiwi businesses; most need a simple upgrade, not an entire makeover."
Paymark believes there are 60,000 EFTPOS terminals across New Zealand that need upgrading.
