Organisers of Argos Gymsport's annual Junior and Senior Artistic Gymnastics Competition at the weekend are pleased they bent over backwards to make the event run smoothly, with the competition receiving positive feedback.

More than 500 senior and junior gymnasts from across the North Island competed in the event, on June 21-22.

Argos Gymsport club president Jo Madden says 100 extra gymnasts entered this year, making it the biggest club gymnastics event in the North Island and possibly nationwide.

'Considering the number of gymnasts we put through, it ran really smoothly and pretty much to time. We had some really good feedback from the clubs that attended.”

About 30 junior and senior gymnasts from Argos Gymsport competed in the two-day event, with entries from Whakatane, Rotorua and Waikato clubs, including a strong showing from Auckland.

Jo says Auckland clubs took out a lot of the team events, while Argos gymnasts received mostly second and third placings.

'It was actually a really nice spread. It wasn't one club, or province, taking out everything. So that was good to see as well.”

While final results have not yet been recorded on the Argos Gymsport website, Jo knows Level 10 Tauranga gymnast Chelsea Barns is the top division female overall winner.

Jo says many hours were put into organising the annual event, and she is pleased with the encouraging response received by participating clubs.

'As a club that puts in a lot of time and effort into a competition like this…the highlights for us are to get that really positive feedback.”

Full competition results will be online as soon as possible.
