Tauranga's newest street, Beaumaris Boulevard, opens this Sunday with ceremony and mini muffins.
The private blessing of the road at dawn is to be followed at 9am with the public opening.
Beaumaris Blvd opens on Sunday.
There will be coffee and mini muffins, an opportunity for people to try their hand at chalk street art, prizes for kids for the best dressed bike, scooter, roller skates etc - and a chance to try them out on the new road. The roads open to traffic at 1pm.
Tauranga City Mayor Stuart Crosby says the road is a necessary improvement for the Bethlehem community.
"It will be an important link for the community as a local road," says Stuart.
"It will give the Cambridge Heights residents easier access to the schools, shopping centre and churches in Bethlehem."
The Beaumaris Boulevard link to Waihi Road involves about 320m of new road and about 100m of new road for the Sterling Gate Drive link. Total new road length is about 420m, plus the new roundabout at the new Beaumaris and Sterling Gate Drive intersection.
It cost approximately $3.6 million. Work commenced in November 2008.
