All Blacks given lifeline

A slightly tweaked All Blacks side has the chance to repay the coaches faith and seal the series in the eagerly anticipated second test match with England in Dunedin.

After a below par start to the 2014 campaign, the last gasp 20-15 win in Auckland, All Blacks coach Steve Hansen is resisting the temptation to make drastic changes, instead just one injury-enforced amendment to the starting side.

Fullback Israel Dagg succumbing to a knee injury means hometown hero Ben Smith shifts from the wing to the vacant 15 jersey and blockbusting wing Julian Savea returns from injury.

Savea's return throws up a mouth-watering match up with England wrecking ball Manu Tuialagi announced to make the shift from the centres to wing this week.

Hansen is expecting another big contest with a vastly determined and physical English outfit admitting the home side needs to improve massively after the nail-biting victory.

"We have worked hard on our skillsets, attitude and the detail in our game, which wasn't up to All Blacks standard last week,” says Hansen.

"Our mindset this week has been all about improvement, taking ownership and responsibility for our individual roles with the aim of delivering a team performance we can all be proud of.

With Kieran Reid spending another week on the sideline following his lengthy battle with concussion, Jerome Kaino gets a second bite at No. 8 and brings up his 50th test cap.

Incumbent No. 6 Liam Messam holds on to the blindside jersey for another week alongside captain Richie McCaw.

The decision to leave the side largely intact gives Chiefs Aaron Cruden a chance to regain some of the attacking form evident leading up to his broken thumb during the Super Rugby season.

The diminutive first five needs a strong showing on the back of a solid forward platform to keep staunch supporters of Beauden Barrett at bay with calls for the Hurricanes player to be given a chance.

"We have a strong belief in what we are trying to do and I assume the English do as well. So come 7.35 on Saturday night, it's game on once again,” says Hansen.

'That's what test rugby is all about and that's why we can't wait for Saturday night to arrive."

Forsyth Barr Stadium is sold out for this weekend's Test with a capacity crowd of 28,500 in attendance.

How many countries are keen on rugby? Hardly any.
