Website sharing local loves

An online platform to help the Tauranga community share favourite eateries, experiences and shopping spots is launching this month, backed by Maketu's Masterchefs Kasey and Karena Bird.

National word-of-mouth website Localist.co.nz is making its ‘Love Local' movement in Tauranga easier to access for residents with the creation of lovelocaltauranga.co.nz

Masterchef 2014 winners Kasey and Karena Bird are supporting Love Local Tauranga.

The idea is that Tauranga residents post their personal recommendations about what they love in the community, providing public connections and a platform for local businesses to shine.

The new link will launch in Tauranga on Friday, June 20 at the Tauranga Art Gallery.

Masterchef siblings Karena and Kasey are hosting the event, which will feature their own menu and local beer and wine.

The sisters say the event is a celebration of everything that is great about the Bay.

'The thing we love most about the Bay of Plenty is the people, there is a really cool laid back vibe here that we just love.

'We also wanted to be a part of the event because it is going to be a really fun night and we are looking forward to meeting some locals.”

Anyone who registers at lovelocaltauranga.co.nz and shares something they love about the Bay of Plenty region will go in the draw for them and a friend to attend the party.

There are no entry limits.

Localist general manager Christina Sayers Wickstead believes ‘Love Local' will resonate all around New Zealand in Kiwi towns, including Tauranga.

'In fact, we know it will.”
