Drillin' for gold in Te Puke

Wellington-based gold exploration company Glass Earth Gold Ltd is planning a major drilling programme at its Muirs Reef gold prospect south of Te Puke.
Muir's Reef chief executive and president Simon Henderson expects to be in Te Puke later this month speaking with the land owners and lease holders about access for his proposed 27 hole programme.

A New Zealand company is planning to drill for gold in Te Puke.

He's hoping to time drilling to minimise impact on current land activity. Some of the area is kiwifruit orchards, and those he hopes to drill over winter.
"They should be the first to learn about it," says Simon. "It's not that they don't know, but I said I would come up at the end of July with plans in place."
In the March quarter report for 2010, Glass Earth reported that three deep diamond drill holes drilled at Muirs in 2008 returned several gold intercepts with the Massey Reef interpreted to be a sheeted vein system consisting of several banded quartz veins up to 5m in width with interstitial stock work veining and brecciation.
Results from gradient array resistivity profiling completed in 2009 indicate the potential for several major new veins and extensions of existing veins particularly west of the Muirs veins.
Gold bearing ore was first found at Muir's Reef in 1895. It was mined intermittently for 30 years before closing in the 1920s. Muirs Reef is about 8km south of Te Puke on No4 road.
