Education - demand driven

Mark Hellyer and Fiona Morris have launched a new tertiary training centre they say will improve labour market flows in the Western Bay of Plenty.
The Pacific Coast Technical Institute, launched in Mount Maunganui on Thursday, is designed to offer courses based on what skills industry in the region is asking for.

"We want it to be demand-driven education rather than supply-driven, so we service industry better," says Mark.
Mark and Fiona have spent 25 years working in the education sector and say they don't think it is properly servicing the needs of business.
"The hardest thing as an employer is finding training opportunities and you can spend a lot of time and money and not know what quality you are getting.
"We're trying to make it easy for businesses by bringing together a group of trainers with good reputations, all in the one place. It's like 'training central'."
PCTI is currently working with AMS Driver Training, Mahurangi Technical Institute, Plant and Food Research, Edbiz, International College of Auckland and Tenax.
