The Christmas season is considered the time of giving but for the people of Tauranga, that doesn't just mean gifts for family and friends.

The Tauranga community is getting behind the city's foodbank during its time of urgent need.
The Tauranga Community Foodbank chairman Don Brebner has said it is ‘under siege' and will need a $40,000 injection to cope with record numbers seeking help this year.
But since the foodbank's plight was highlighted in The Weekend Sun two weeks ago, Tauranga businesses, clubs and other organisations have rallied behind it.
Next Wednesday, December 10, Sierra Café on Wharf Street will be offering free coffee to the public but people are able to make a donation for the coffee. The money raised will be given directly to the foodbank.
BMX Ink is a small Tauranga club that is also trying to do its bit for the foodbank during the build up to Christmas.
Club members are being encouraged to bring along a non-perishable food item when they meet every Tuesday, which will then be matched by the club.
Daniel Belchamber is the managing coordinator at BMX Ink and says there is a real need for the whole community to make a contribution.
'There is such a real need out in the community and we might just be a small club but we can make a difference and if everyone else gets involved then it will make an even bigger difference,” says Daniel.
Rothbury, Bayleys and Eves Reality are also organising a big drive for the foodbank and have set up collection bins in 12 offices across Tauranga.
All of the Oregon ITM stores are also encouraging staff and members of the public to donate food items.
Adrian Hill, a staff member at the Mount Maunganui branch of Oregon ITM, says the Tauranga Foodbank provides an important service to the community.
'It's not about money, it's about those that are in need this time of year and it's also about community spirit,” says Adrian.
