Over the past four years Liz Houghton has volunteered her services to make sure hundreds of people in the Mount Maunganui and Papamoa areas get their daily meal delivered right to their front door.

The Red Cross Meals on Wheels service has been operating in the Tauranga region since 1957 but the Mount Maunganui/Papamoa service stopped briefly in the mid 1990s.
Meals on Wheels is a voluntary service that provides hot lunchtime meals for older people who have returned home after being in hospital and find it difficult to make meals themselves.
Now the important service in the Mount Maunganui/Papamoa area is in need of more volunteers and a new coordinator.
Liz is the current Meals on Wheels coordinator for the area but is now stepping aside.
'Originally, I went along to a meeting and put my hand up as a driver and the next thing I knew I was the coordinator,” says Liz.
Drivers deliver around eight meals on an average day, which they pick up and deliver using their own vehicle.
Liz resigned in June this year but has carried on in the position because Meals on Wheels has not been able to find another coordinator.
Currently there are 30 volunteer drivers for the Mount Maunganui/Papamoa area but Liz says it would be great to get at least another six.
'It wouldn't be on a regular basis but it's a way for people to give back to the community. It's not a difficult job, people don't have to go far and it's just a nice way to make sure the older people are alright,” says Liz.
