An increased police presence will be seen on the Coromandel's roads next week as people travel to and from the Beach Hop in Whangamata.
Waikato Police communications manager Andrew McAlley says police will be mainly focussing on cars, not officially taking part in the event.
Cars officially taking part in the annual Beach Hop event won't necessarily be the target of police next weekend.
"In the past, Beach Hop has been busier for us than New Year's Eve, and our focus will be on the serviceability of vehicles."
Andrew says liquor ban infringements will also be the focus of police as they look to have a heightened presence in the town.
Anyone caught breaching the liquor ban will face a $200 fine.
Andrew says given the fine weekend forecast, people are being expected to prepare for delays on the roads as the car event attracts thousands of people every year.
