Gorge reopens

The Mangorewa Gorge is reopening on Monday at 4pm. State Highway 36 closed on August 6 after a rockfall that crushed cars and completely blocked the road.

New Zealand Transport Agency has worked to resecure the area since the incident and is now satisfied it is safe to open the road for a portion of a day. NZTA is continuing works in the area and so the gorge will only be open from 4pm till 9am each day. It will remain closed to vehicles for some time still.

This information supplied by NZTA and included in its weekly bulletin published here.

Harbour Link Project
Intended programme for next week (weather dependent, therefore subject to change):
A short-term lane closure will be installed on Marsh St (heading towards Tauranga) for repairs to a stormwater pipe to be undertaken. One lane will be available at all times.
A full road closure (night-time) will be installed on Dive Cr from the rail crossing to Dive Cr roundabout for the final road alignment to be constructed. People requiring access to private or public property will be able to do so. Please follow the sign posted detour.
A short-term lane closure on Chapel St will be installed for pavement construction and gantry installations. One lane will be available at all times.
A short-term lane closure will be installed on Takitimu Dr eastbound for asphalt to be laid. All traffic will be diverted onto the Chapel St eastbound off ramp.

Long-term closures:
Continuation of a long-term lane closure westbound on Takitimu Dr, Otumoetai and Matua traffic to use the Chapel St eastbound off ramp. A 50km/h speed restriction is in place. Westbound cyclists are advised to use Cameron Rd.
Installation of a long-term lane diversion from Dive Cr roundabout onto the new Harbour Bridge. A speed restriction is in place and caution is required. Cyclists and pedestrians are advised to travel along the sign posted route and use the new shared walkway/cycleway on the new Harbour Bridge.
Continuation of a long-term footpath closure on Chapel St (old BP site side of Chapel St). Pedestrians will be diverted at the controlled intersections at Chapel St and Bay Central Retail.
Continuation of a long-term lane diversion on Mirrielees Rd, with all traffic travelling on the new road. Pedestrians are advised to follow the sign posted walkway. Dive Cr roundabout shape has changed and caution is required when driving through this area.
Long-term lane closures are in place along Hewletts Rd (city bound traffic only), which involves the reduction from 3 to 2 lanes from Totara St to Tasman Quay. Tasman Quay to Ballance Corner is reduced to one lane to allow for a traffic diversion at the old toll plaza site for construction of the new road.
Pedestrian and cycle access from Totara St south onto Aerodrome Bridge is closed until December 2009. Cyclists and pedestrians are advised to use the new shared walkway/cycleway which runs from Tasman Quay intersection on Hewletts Rd over the new Harbour Bridge to Mirrielees Rd.

Advance notice of significant works
A short-term road closure will be installed on Chapel St (Brown St to Chapel/Marsh St intersection) for the installation of a sign gantry. This work is currently programmed for Sunday 4th October, weather permitting. Motorists are advised to follow the sign posted detour in place.
