Submissions on the tolling option for the eastern motorway are looking to be mostly in favour of tolling the road, says the New Zealand Transport Agency's Waikato Bay of Plenty regional director Harry Wilson.
Submissions on the tolling option to accelerate the road's construction closed 5pm Friday.
They won't be collated and counted until next week, but the general theme is in support, says Harry.
'We are not asking whether they like tolls or support tolls but a lot are supporting it to bring the road forward,” says Harry.
'Which is great, and the responses are lining up that way. They understand the reason therefore they support it.”
Those wishing to speak to their submissions will be heard in hearings set down for October 12-15.
By Christmas the toll proposal will be with the Minister of Transport, from there it goes to cabinet which will present the proposal to the Governor General for an Order in Council.
