Tauranga's Bay Hopper buses are continuing to increase passenger numbers.
The August figures just released by Environment BOP show 103,700 people traveled on the service last month. This is an increase of more than 2,300 on July when Go Bus took over the contract and 11,000 more than August last year.
In the first month of the new contractor's operation 101,400 people used Bay Hoppers.
The initial figures received after the one month, show that 101,400 passengers had used the new Bay Hopper service in July 2009 compared to 81,609 the previous month in June and 96,200 one year ago in July 2008.
Environment Bay of Plenty transport committee chairman Andrew von Dadelszen says he's pleased to see numbers are climbing and people are taking to the new service.
'Our aim is to have more people taking the bus more often,” says Andrew.
'We're continuing to take on feedback from passengers, but won't be looking to make any major route changes until the second year of the contract.”
