ASB Baypark speedway may have started with a convoy with 51 trucks joining the first Baypark Truck Show, but the racing trackside was anything but a procession.

The feature event of the night for the Saloon Car Class was the visual effects 30-lap race.

Driver error caused a huge moment for 75M Saloon driver Michelle Wymer at ASB Baypark on Saturday night. Photos: supplied.

Using a pole shuffle where the fastest six cars race against one another across two laps to establish the start positions, organisers threw in a curved ball where the pole shuffle winner drew a marble.

This determined the winner's start position in the race with all fellow pole shufflers immediately behind the driver in front.

This made for an interesting race where everyone from the faster group had to deal with slower traffic from the moment the starter's flag dropped.

Within a few opening laps, 45M Paul Cressy ran wide to nudge the leader 7R Kevin Moore sending him into the wall. Cressy lead for 11 more of the feature laps. On lap 13 the lead changed to 272M Chris Cowling.

92M Stock Car Brent Hayes leads 94M Scott Hayward.

Behind the leaders, other cars were making their way through the traffic. At race conclusion, 272M Chris Cowling won, 3NZ Brent Mclymont came second, and 45M Paul Cressy came in third after 2NZ Steve Cowling was relegated to fifth position by officials after making two passes with his front wheels over the pole line which is considered a driving offence in speedway.

The Supers Stock Dash for Cash was won by 73M Karl Ross from 59M Chris Brown with 38M Ross Ashby in third position.

Brothers Keaton (88M) and James (6M) Dahm started the sprint car feature side by side on the front row of the grid.

James retired later in the race where as brother Keaton went on to win from 4M Colin Entwisle and 86M Shay Samuelson, who has only just returned to the sport after having a season off.

94M Stock Car Driver Scott Hayward won the Stock Car part of the evening on points across three races from 92M Brent Hayes and 22M Les Hepworth.

In the Mini Stock Section 32M Hayden Guptill won the feature as well as amassing the most points across three heats to receive the highest points overall trophy from 24G Jonny Morley. Reps choice went to Trent Amrein.

The next Speedway Meeting at Baypark is the Earth Mover Tyres North Island Sprint Car champs and the Burger King Super Saloon series on February 1.

Your race report above says, 'Within a few opening laps, 45M Paul Cressy ran wide to nudge the leader 7R Kevin Moore sending him into the wall. Cressy lead for 11 more of the feature laps...' and mentions 2NZ being relegated for crossing the pole line. It's actually also a breach of the race rules to send someone into the wall in the saloon class so either your report is incorrect or the referees need more eyes.

Empty seats?
