NZTA opens SH29 tender

The NZ Transport Agency has released the tender for the investigation into improvements on State Highway 29 near Tauriko.
The investigation aims to develop a way to improve safety and effectiveness for all road users.

Earlier studies identified options for the route, varying from realignments to a complete bypass of Tauriko.
The $1.5 million investigation will review the options, consider their social and environmental effects, select the most appropriate solution after public consultation, undertake geotechnical studies and develop a preliminary design for the preferred route.
NZTA's state highway manager for the Bay of Plenty, Rod James, says the tender process will run for two months.
"The successful tenderer will be appointed in August and get work underway in September. People can expect to hear from us with potential options later in 2010."
The investigation is expected to take a year to complete.

This should all be already sorted out its not rocket science.Consultancy is just a money pit the reports are often wrong and impractical.NZTA say tender process will take 2months the tenderer will be selected in August and work will commence in September .NZTA then goes on to say the investigation will take a year to complete. How the Hell does that work - you investigate it after you have finished the job-a novel approach!!!!!!!

cut the crap and get on with it

Instead of spending 1.5 million, please employ commonsense and put the money to the improvements

I agree

II agree with Roger K Its horrifying to see how much money is spent consultants etc when the answer is obvious. all it needs is some common sense. It appears that money is being spent by Govt agencies and councils to cover their own inabilities. These agencies are paid for by the taxpayer but are unable to do the jobs they are paid for. Putting this kind of tender out is simply a means to cover themselves if something goes wrong. There are much cheaper ways of achieving the same end without this kind of waste.
