Police say there were seven car crashes in the Western Bay of Plenty during Queen's Birthday Weekend.
Five of the seven crashes occurred in low-speed areas of the Western Bay, with only two occurring on State Highways.
There were no injuries in five of the crashes and senior sergeant Ian Campion says only minor injuries were incurred from the other two.
Car crashes like the one pictured here from State Highway 29 in August 2009, did not occur in the Western Bay during the long weekend.
Ian says comments from road policing staff indicate motorists were driving significantly slower during the long weekend.
A 'low tolerance' speed crackdown, targeting motorists caught speeding 4km above the posted speed limit was enforced during Queen's Birthday Weekend.
Ian says motorists in the Western Bay were "well behaved".
"Given the weather we had and the fact it was a long weekend, the results were extremely good.
"Speeds were down throughout the state highway network."
The Western Bay crash statistics for Queen's Birthday Weekend 2009 were not available.
