A driver involved in a two car crash on Thursday night at the Whakatane turn off south of Te Puke was taken to Tauranga Hospital.
St John Ambulance say the 32 year old man had a head wound and a sore neck. The other driver, a 38 year old woman, was bruised but did not require hospital attention.
Te Puke police say both drivers are locals familiar with the intersection. One of the drivers was out of their lane when the crash happened.
"It's a reminder before the long weekend for drivers to pay attention to what's around you, and to other traffic on the road," says highway patrol sergeant Mike Owen.
