The Bay of Plenty Mustang Owners Club event, now in its eleventh year, features all sorts of American cars including Mustangs, Chryslers, Dodges and Oldsmobiles.

Club president Dave Flett says 'everything American” is on display today with about 230 cars from from classics to custom cars and hot rods.

'You never know what you're going to find when you come to an all American day. There's a wide range of cars on display here today.”

A number of car clubs are represented at the car show including the Auckland Corvette Club showcasing as many as 30 Corvette's, the Waikato Mustang Club, the Cadillac Club.

'What a lot of them do is make this their weekend away each year,” says Dave.

Although he does not have an exact count – Dave says as many as 600 people have come to admire the American cars today.

Some of the clubs take part in a car trail around parts of the Bay of Plenty during their visit, which the Auckland Corvette Club and Mustang Club completed on Saturday, says Dave.

'There are a lot of cars American cars in town this weekend. A lot of people have commented on the amount of all these beautiful sports cars that are here this weekend.”

Money raised from today's event will be donated to the Child Cancer Foundation Bay of Plenty.

Dave says two young boys from the foundation are enjoying the day walking around the cars, posing by their favourites, and even being promised a ride in one later on.
