A truck driver is lucky to have escaped a crash with minor injuries after a fertiliser truck crashed into a dirt bank in Pukehina.
Emergency services were called to the crash scene of a crash on Rotoehu Road at about 3pm.
Firefighters cleaning fertiliser off the road.

The driver of the truck was initially reported as being trapped but was out of the cab and walking around when firefighters arrived on the scene, says Northern Fire Communications shift manager Megan Ruru.
Megan says two fire appliances from Maketu and Pukehina attended the crash.
Maketu Fire Brigade fire chief officer Shane Beech believes one of the front tyres of the truck blew out causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
Police were also called to the scene, along with St John Paramedics to check the driver out.
The fertiliser and truck have been cleared from the road.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.

How many more truck accidents are going to happen before they are limited to 90ks per hour and rigourously enforced.

The truck was travelling 75kmh rounding a left hand corner when the left front tyre blew out causing the accident. The driver was not at fault nor was the truck. If you want to vent direct it at the tyre manufacturers.
Heard it all before

Trucks because of their size have the potential to kill, more than a family car. For this reason they have to be much more careful in their loading, speeds and roadworthiness. Unless this is accepted by the trucking industry then people will continue to be killed. Some years ago I was following a large truck and trailer unit which did not take a bend and took a family car on the other side of the road with it. The family died, truck driver unhurt. We hear it about guns and dogs etc. "Guns dont kill people do" but plainly large calibre assault guns have more potential to kill. "Dogs arent dangerous its the owners" Pit bulls have the potential to injure greater than the foxy. Same with trucks, they have a greater standard of care owed to the community.

Have you ever driven a truck let alone a loaded one on a winding road.It is extremely difficult to do so with any speed let alone in excess of 90kph. Think about basic laws of physics and compare damage to the truck with damage done at speed in excess of 90.
Maintain the trucks

It may not have been the drivers fault. For all we know the company the driver works for may not be maintaining their trucks

I would be careful with your comments if I was you. You are verging on defamation which could be very costly for you. As for Surfwatch, What an expert. Did you witness the accident? Do you actually know what occurred or are you just blanketing the industry with one view due to an accident you witnessed??
Does it matter

It doesnt matter what caused the accident, or who is at fault. "Act of God" Yeah Right. The fact is that another truck has had an accident. The bigger they are the bigger the mess. Trucks owners and their drivers need to be extra vigilant. Only a nil accident rate amongs trucks is the goal. NO MORE EXCUSES. And for you truck drivers out there who want to condemn me. Truck safety is saving YOUR life, YOUR conscience (if you kill someone) and protecting YOUR family. Stop making excuses and blaming everyone else. Dont accept bad driving, bad maintenance and careless load security amongst your fellow truck drivers.
