Harbour Link Project

Intended programme for next week (weather dependent, therefore subject to change)

A series of lane closures will be installed along Chapel St (from the Chapel St/Marsh St intersection to the Mobil Service Station) to allow for road construction. This work is currently programmed for the 19th July (weather permitting). The majority of work will be undertaken at night with one lane open in each direction. For a short period traffic will be required to travel on compacted metal and a speed restriction will be in place. Traffic control will be in place for the duration of these works and caution is required when travelling through the work site. Where possible motorists are advised to use an alternative route or allow for additional travel time, as delays are expected. These works are expected to take five days to complete.

A short term lane diversion will be installed on Mirrielees Rd to install barriers on the viaduct and install median islands. Lanes will be reduced in width but open at all times.

A short-term stop/go closure will be installed on Dive Cres under the Marsh St overbridge to allow for a watermain to be connected. Traffic controllers will be on site managing the closure with one lane remaining open at all times.

A stop/go closure will be installed on the Causeway to allow for steel barriers to be removed.
A stop/go closure will be installed on the approach to the existing Harbour Bridge from the Dive Cres roundabout heading towards the Mount, to allow for temporary concrete barriers to be installed.

A short term lane closure of the Chapel St eastbound off ramp will be installed to allow for a concrete deck section to be poured on the viaduct. Otumoetai bound traffic will be required to make a left turn at the Chapel St/Marsh St intersection.

Long-term closures
Continuation of a long-term lane closure westbound on Takitimu Dr, Otumoetai and Matua traffic will need to use the Chapel St eastbound off ramp. A 50km/h speed restriction is in place. Westbound cyclists are advised to use Cameron Rd.

Continuation of a long-term shoulder closure on the Mount causeway, east and westbound. A 50km/h speed restriction is in place. Cyclists and pedestrians are advised to use the footpath on the existing Harbour Bridge and causeway. Please keep left and travel with care as this is a shared path. Caution is required due to heavy truck movements in this area.

Continuation of a long-term shoulder closure at the old toll plaza site west and eastbound for works on Aerodrome Bridge and other associated areas.

Installation of a long-term lane diversion on the existing Harbour Bridge to allow for the construction of the Dive Cr westbound off ramp. Cyclists and pedestrians are advised to proceed with caution through this area, as it is a shared path.

Continuation of a long-term footpath closure on Chapel St (old BP site side of Chapel St) to allow for services and construction works to commence. Pedestrians will be diverted at the controlled intersections at Chapel St and Bay Central Retail.

Continuation of a long-term lane diversion on Mirrielees Rd. All traffic is now travelling on the new road; pedestrians are advised to follow the sign posted walkway. The shape of the Dive Cr roundabout has changed and caution is required when driving through this area.

Long-term lane closures are in place along Hewletts Rd (city-bound traffic) to allow for a traffic diversion at the old toll plaza site for construction of the new road. Lanes are reduced from 3 to 2 lanes from Totara St to Tasman Quay and to one lane from Tasman Quay to Ballance Corner.

Tauranga City works this week
Matapihi Road: Minor works will be taking place on Matapihi Road between the railway line & Owens Place. The work, which will be done at night between 7pm and 7am, is expected to start on Sunday 19 July and is likely to take three nights. Traffic lanes around the Bayfair Roundabout will be reduced and traffic management will be in place. Expect delays.
Taniwha Place: Construction of a right turn bay on State Highway 2 (on the Tauranga side of the Wairoa Bridge) to make it safer for traffic turning into Taniwha Place is progressing well. Bad weather has meant some delays in the work. Take care in the area. Traffic delays are possible.
Matapihi Road Combined Footpath and Cycle Way: Work to construct a combined footpath and cycle way on Matapihi Road beside the Omanu Golf Course is continuing. The pedestrian crossing on Matapihi Road near the Bayfair Roundabout will be moved about 50 metres further down the road towards the golf course.
