Morris on the move

It wasn't a typical sight on the streets of Tauranga today as a Morris Minor adorned in corrugated iron was seen being pushed through the CBD.

The vintage looking Morris was a feature piece at the recently finished Corrugations exhibition at the Tauranga Art Gallery.

ON THE MOVE: The corrugated Morris Minor being pushed down Willow Street.

Loaded on and ready to head to Hamilton.

It, along with other pieces by Kiwi sculptor Jeff Thomson, are being transported to Waikato Museum for the next phase of the 2013 exhibition.

Gallery director Penelope Jackson says the exhibition, which has been on at the city gallery since June 28, has been hugely popular with more than 23,000 people visiting.

'(We're) always sad to see an exhibition go. But it's got another life - it's going off to another venue. It means a whole new audience can see it and if anyone misses it here they can trek on over to Hamilton and look at it at Waikato Museum.”

Penelope says the book on Jeff Thomson's work generated a lot of interest in his works.

'The book about Jeff Thomson sold very well. It was a very popular exhibition. It was curated around the process - how he actually made his objects – and people found that very interesting.”

New exhibitions at the gallery begin on Wednesday with Gregor Kregar's ‘Foucault's Pendulum' beginning on October 23.

Matthew Couper's ‘thirty three' begins October 26 and Rosemary McLeod's ‘With Bold Needle and Thread' beginning November 2.
