Police urge motorists to take extreme caution on Western Bay roads this morning, July 14, due to ice, which has been reported on State Highway 29 over the Kaimai Ranges and on Pyes Pa Road.

Police say there is a layer of ice stretching about half a kilometre south of Hanga Road, near the Kaimai Range summit. A highway patrol vehicle is monitoring the area. Grit has been laid on the road.
There is also surface ice on Pyes Pa Road near the plateau, the area around Te Matai Road, in Mangorewa Gorge and on the Rotorua side of the gorge.
