Police nab worst drunk driver

Tauranga police have processed a driver with the highest ever breath alcohol reading recorded in the Western BOP since the Tauranga Traffic Alcohol Group was set up two years ago.

The driver was found slumped over his steering wheel in his parked car on Otumoetai Road on July 2.
He allegedly had 1759 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath when tested by police. The legal limit for an adult is 400mcg.
An Otumoetai Road resident alerted police to the driver, who had blocked the driveway to their house.
The man was charged with drunk driving, driving while forbidden, possession of cannabis and possession of instruments for consumption of cannabis.
